Water is the elixir of life and the vital natural resource in sustaining the ecosystem. Hydrology and Climatology (H&C) Research Group provides guidance and leadership in research and development, consultancy and extension programs to improve understanding and scientific solutions for the assessment, conservation, development, management and utilization of water resources including precipitation, surface water and groundwater, to ensure sustainable water resources for the betterment of the society, through basic as well as applied research.
Water is the most important among all natural resources, hence protecting water resources are essential for sustainable development. In the rapidly changing climate scenario, sustainable water management through targeted research is indispensable to enhance water availability, identifying ways of optimum usage and addressing the challenges and oriented research in managing water resources are of great importance. Research and Development activities are designed to meet the varying needs of State, National and International levels with the following vision and mission.
The vision of the Hydrology and Climatology Research Group is to act as the Centre of Excellence in improving the scientific understanding of Surface and Groundwater Hydrology and also Climatology with interdisciplinary, application-oriented research.
The mission of the Hydrology and Climatology research group is to offer knowledge and scientific solutions for the assessment, conservation, development, management and utilization of water resources including Precipitation, Surface runoff and Groundwater resources, to ensure sustainable natural environment for the betterment of the society.
The research, development and consultancy programs offered by Hydrology and Climatology research group are focused to address water resources issues in a wide spectrum of areas, like Catchment Hydrology, Forest Hydrology, River Mechanics, Flood Forecasting, Water Harvesting, Rainfall/Runoff Modeling, Groundwater Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Global and Regional Climate Studies, Groundwater Modeling and its sub-areas viz., Wetland Hydrology, Hydro-geophysics, Subsurface flow and Transport, Land Atmosphere Ocean Interaction, Paleo-hydrology, Coastal Engineering, Environmental Flows, Sediment Transport, Remote Sensing Applications, Geographical Information Systems through multi-disciplinary approach, ultimately ensuring water security for the public. Apart from these, Hydrology and Climatology Research Group offers research and training opportunities for students / research scholars in water resources sector.
