The main goal of a post-Doctoral fellowship is to develop your professional and academic skills while still under the mentorship of an experienced researcher. You will likely have more flexibility in terms of the funding you apply for and the direction of your research. Post-Doctoral scholars should demonstrate broad knowledge within their discipline and detailed knowledge of their specific research area. They should understand the gaps, limits, and challenges within their research area such that they can develop testable hypotheses. A post-doc serves as a transitional period between being a doctorate student and obtaining full-time professional experience. The details of the national and state funding agencies are given below.

Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) admits students for Ph.D. Degree in three Universities namely University of Calicut (CU) and Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS). The subject areas for Ph.D in CWRDM are Botany, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Hydrology, Groundwater Hydrology, Hydro geophysics, Geology, Coastal processes, Marine Sciences, Remote Sensing & GIS, Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheries Technology etc.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants with a first class Post Graduate Degree in Agriculture Engineering, Fisheries Technology, Chemical Sciences, Botany, Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Science, Coastal Processes, Remote Sensing & GIS, Hydrochemistry and Marine Chemistry are eligible to apply if she/he has a fellowship from ongoing research project at CWRDM (with a minimum of three-years of fellowship) or have a valid research fellowship from UGC, CSIR, DST and DBT (Category A only)
  2. Candidates awaiting final exam results can also apply. However only those candidates with a valid certificate will be allowed to appear for the selection interview.
  3. Candidates (except those with UGC-CSIR fellowship) will have to pass the eligibility/qualifying examination of the respective universities.

Process

Candidates with who satisfy minimum requirements will have to make a presentation of research topic at CWRDM before Research Advisory Committee (RAC) under Academic Cell and subsequently submit their application to respective university. Six months of course work is mandatory for all the Ph.D. scholars. Students have to undergo course work in three papers namely Research methodology, Broad area of research and Core subject area. Students are expected to submit the thesis before completion of the fellowship tenure. Extension beyond this time will be given after recommendation from the RAC on a case to case basis.

CWRDM has been recognized as the research centre for Chemistry, Geology, Botany and Environmental Sciences by the Cochin University of Science & Technology, Calicut University and Kannur University. Scientists with specialization in Science are recognized supervising guides in these Universities. In addition, as a part of the M.Sc., M.Tech, M.Phil Programmes of several colleges/Universities, number of Post Graduate students in Science and Engineering are doing their Thesis/Dissertation/Internship/Training under the supervision of the scientists of the Centre.

Conditions for the selection of candidates for M.Sc. / M.Tech. Dissertation and Internship/ Training

  1. Those Candidates who are interested to do M.Sc. / M.Tech. Dissertation should apply through their Head of the Department and the respective Head of the Institution  concerned and addressed to the Executive Director, CWRDM. Direct letters/ applications from the candidates and letters/ applications not addressed to the Executive Director will not be entertained.  They should also enclose a detailed bio data, mark list & certificates of their earlier examinations. The duration and time period of stay for dissertation at CWRDM should be clearly mentioned in the application letter.
  2. A candidate should spend minimum of three months for M.Sc. / M.Tech. dissertation at CWRDM and the supervisor and guide will be assigned by the Executive Director, CWRDM.
  3. All requests received will be scrutinized by a selection committee constituted by the Executive Director. The selected candidates will be informed about their selection through their respective Institutes.
  4. The minimum fee for dissertation work is fixed as Rs.12,000/- for those  with laboratorial/analytical work and Rs.10,000/- for those without laboratorial work. An additional amount of Rs.2500/month will be charged for extra months. The fee for Internship/Training is fixed as Rs.3000/- per month. Fees should be paid at lump sum at the time of joining for the dissertation work.
  5. All the reports/documents for dissertation work should be printed and photocopied outside CWRDM.
  6. Dissertation work will be permitted to be done in CWRDM only for Post Graduate Courses.
